Steve,
Eleanor, John, Joshua,
and
Lydia now
live in West Sacramento,
California.
Steve Whitney (Stephen A. Whitney) is pastor of Trinity
Presbyterian Church in West Sacramento, a church in the Presbyterian
Church (USA) which is a Protestant denomination of the Christian church.
Steve received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Stanford
University where he spent three years in Terra
House. He then went to UCLA to get
a master's degree in computer science. Later, Steve worked in, managed,
and contracted
for the platform operating system development team at sgi
(also known as Silicon Graphics
Inc),
where he worked on such products as the Challenge and Origin servers and the
Onyx series. After working at sgi, Steve managed the Report Server Development
Team at Actuate Corporation.
From there, he moved to San Francisco Theological Seminary to earn his Master
of Divinity degree. He did a ten-month internship as pastor intern at
Ygnacio Valley Presbyterian Church, a redevelopment congregation. In May
2003 Steve graduated from seminary and then in August 2003 he and the family
moved to West Sacramento for a career
as a pastor. He has pastored Trinity
Presbyterian Church there ever since.
Eleanor Mendoza Whitney graduated from UCLA
with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Next, she received a certificate in
human resources management from University of California Santa Cruz extension.
She then worked as the Human Resources Manager for Geometrics,
Inc. a manufacturer of geophysical imaging equipment. She
completed the Diploma
in the Art of Spiritual Direction and Master
of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) programs at San
Francisco Theological Seminary and is currently serving as a spiritual
director when being a mom permits. She has also recently studied piano,
voice, and music theory at the College
of Marin in Kentfield, California where she sang in the
Winter and Summer Operas. Eleanor has served as cantor (soloist and leader
of congregational singing) for St. Anselm's Roman Catholic Church, First
Presbyterian Church of
San Rafael, and Redwoods Presbyterian Church and is interested in being a cantor
in the Sacramento area as well when the kids grow up a bit.
Eleanor has recently branched into new areas, designing and maintaining the web
site for Pint-Sized Picassos,
a toddler art program run by a friend.
